CMU Retiree/Emeritus Status
CMU Retiree Status Criteria
To be considered a CMU Retiree, employees must satisfy one of the following requirements:
- Twenty-five (25) years of benefits eligible CMU service at any age
- Ten (10) years of benefits eligible CMU service and at least age fifty-five (55)
- Ten (10) years of benefits eligible CMU service at any age if totally and permanently disabled as determined by the Social Security Administration
These criteria apply to the following employee groups as of the dates noted below:
- Professional and Administrative - July 1, 2002
- Senior Officer - July 1, 2002
- Office Professional - August 13, 2002
- Supervisory/Technical - September 10, 2002
- Police Officers - September 25, 2002
- Command Officers - September 30, 2002
- Service Maintenance - January 9, 2003
- Temporary Faculty - January 1, 2004
- Public Broadcasting - July 1, 2004
Regular Faculty must satisfy one of the following requirements, effective July 1 2002:
- Twenty-five (25) years of benefits eligible CMU service at any age
- Ten (10) years of benefits eligible CMU service and at least age fifty-five (55)
CMU Emeritus Status Criteria
Emeritus status may be awarded to the following groups with Board of Trustees approval:
- Senior Officer; Professional & Administrative - salaried with at least 10 years of full-time service
- Regular Faculty with at least 10 years of service
- Board of Trustees upon completion of at least 8 years of service
If you qualify for CMU Retiree status, you are eligible for certain additional privileges:
- Parking decal for free on-campus parking
- Campus ID
- Participation in a retirement recognition ceremony
- Annual letter from the President with updates on University and outline of retiree benefits
- Discounts on SAC/CHIP memberships
- Tuition Waiver for retiree only
- Email/internet service (emeritus only)
