Courses Offered:
The following is a list of the sessions covered under the Leadership Excellence (formerly Supervision Excellence) series. This is a fun-filled, fast-paced program that covers supervision theory, management practices, and leadership skills in an interactive and engaging setting. Certification will be given at the end of the series to individuals who attend all sessions in the series. Make up sessions will be offered in the following semester for those who miss up to two sessions. If you are interested, you must register for the entire series.

| Foundations of Supervision Presented by: David Burdette, Vice President of FAS and Maxine Kent, AVP of Human Resources |
What are the key attributes of a great leader? This session establishes a guiding framework for leadership which aligns with CMU's mission and vision. It will explore the core values, behaviors, and characteristics of great leaders and supervisors. |
| Leadership Styles (MBTI) Presented by: Amy McGinnis, HR |
Developing an understanding of personal style is fundamental in enabling participants to manage and interact more effectively with others. The purpose of this session is to take the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality inventory to the next level by exploring the impact of personal style relationships. |
| Effective Communication & Conflict Presented by: Dawn Hecker, Michigan State University and Mike Rao, President |
This session focuses first on building essential communication skills through discussion and practice. It then enhances participant's understanding of the sources and nature of conflict. Participants will learn and apply a model for managing conflict that uses fundamental communication tools, focuses on identifying the interests underlying a conflict, promotes mutual understanding, and ultimately causes those in conflict to manage their differences in a constructive way. Lunch will be provided. |

The rapidly diversifying face of the American worforce requires that leaders at all levels be able to effectively interact with employees with differences such as race, religion, lifestyle, sexual orientation, gender, and age. The purpose of this session is to raise participant awareness of their own biases and increase sensitivity to diversity issues, enabling them to more effectively build a collaborative work environment and lead effectively within this environment. |

Performance Management is a partnership. Participants will learn how to develop SMART goals, deliver effective feedback, focus on career development for themselves and their staff, and utilize the CMU Performance Management process. |

Motivational Environments & Teambuilding Presented by: Suzanne Gareiss, RPLS and Jen Nottingham, URec |
This session explores the definition and characteristics of building a motivational work environment. Emphasis is on how to create a positive work environment which is conducive for employee morale and productivity. Topics include the power of positive relationships, trust and teambuilding, collaboration, and positive methods of correction and discipline. |

Improvement Presented by: Mike Owens, Dean of Students Office |
This motivational and inspirational session will focus on continuous improvement in the workplace and how leaders and supervisors can embrace and manage change. The three mistakes a manager is likely to make will be covered, along with several skills that lie at the heart of all interspersonal relationships. |

This session will provide participants with an update on university, state, and federal laws, policies, and regulations that define how CMU operates. The program is interactive and entertaining while equipping participants with knowledge and providing them with resources for future questions. Lunch will be provided. |
