Workers Compensation does provide:
- Protection from job loss due to a work related injury.
- Protection from going without income while off work for a work related injury.
- Proper medical care to help you recover as quickly as possible.
Workers' Compensation won't:
- Fully replace CMU wages while off work.
- Act as a comprehensive medical insurance (only covers medical costs related to your illness/injury).
- Cover pre-existing health conditions or illnesses that are not work-related.
Important points:
- It is a good idea to always keep at least 2 weeks sick time available to use for unexpected illness or injury. Work Comp does not always pay for time off less than 2 weeks. You may need to use some of your sick time to cover doctor/therapy visits, etc.
- Report incidents quickly so that proper medical care can be arranged with direct billing to CMU and not to your insurance. Your medical insurance may refuse payment for work-related expenses. If treatment was not approved by CMU, you may have to pay for it yourself. As soon as you suspect your condition may be work related, report it to our office and let us work with you to determine proper billing.
- While COMP at Wellness Central is our contracted medical provider, they are professionals trained in occupational medicine and we rely heavily on their professional medical opinion. We do not tell the physicians what to do.
