Wellness Wheel

Wellness is a lifelong journey toward optimal health. It is an ongoing process that involves personal time and commitment. Traditional wellness activities focus on basic physical fitness and nutrition. A person is considered well if they are free of illness or disease. While physical well- ness is important, it is only one of six dimensions of wellness. These six dimensions, physical, intellectual, occupational, emotional, social and spiritual, complement and interact with each other. When one dimension is strong, it strengthens and positively affects the other dimensions.

The wellness wheel shows how the dimensions work together.  Like a bike wheel, if all of the spokes or dimensions are functioning at optimal levels, the wheel rolls along smoothly.  If however, one of the spokes or dimensions becomes weak or if the tire loses air, the wheel will run off course.

Wellness is a choice and a way of life.

To assist interested employees in their wellness journeys, the CMU Employee Wellness Program and Professional and Career Development have teamed up to offer opportunities for improving wellness in all six dimensions. The sessions and activities offered by these programs will specify the targeted dimension(s).
